Activities & Social Events

Nearly the entire social program is included in your registration — the welcome reception, the honors evening, the Freedom Trail walk and the gala banquet. There is nothing extra to buy and nothing to book separately, apart from the dine-around, where groups make their own arrangements.

Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres to open the meeting, with high-tops and a bar. Registration runs from 1:00 pm that afternoon, so most attendees arrive, check in and come straight down.

Gold Foil Academy Honors Evening

W Boston

An awards evening for the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators — a buffet dinner, entertainment and the presentation of honors. The format for the outing attached to it has not been settled: a Duck Boat tour was the original plan, and a Fenway tour or harbour cruise have since been floated.

Restaurants around Boston

An informal evening out in groups of six to ten. Unlike Hawaii there is no curated restaurant list and no block booking — groups pick their own place and settle up individually at the restaurant.

Freedom Trail Walking Tour

Downtown Boston

A guided walk of the two-and-a-half mile Freedom Trail, linking sixteen sites of the American Revolution — the Old State House, the Granary Burying Ground, Faneuil Hall and more. The tour is reserved for the group, so we need an accurate headcount.

Gala Reception & Awards Banquet

The closing evening of the meeting: a reception at the bar beside the gala room, then the awards banquet. Current planning is for eighty to ninety guests.

Review: Hawaii had a paid excursions program via a concierge. Does Boston want anything equivalent, or is the included program the whole offering?

Exploring Boston on your own

The meeting runs Wednesday through Saturday with academic sessions on Thursday and Friday, so free time is limited to Friday afternoon and the gaps around the program. The planning spreadsheet lists a historic tour, a harbour tour, Boston Common and Faneuil Hall as candidate outings, but the Freedom Trail is the only one actually reserved.
